Saga 1 in Wanderlust: Travelling to China

“Not all who wander are lost,” sometimes a bit of wanderlust can be the biggest adventure of all……

Have you ever had that sense of wanderlust? That restless stirring in your soul calling out for new horizons? If not, how about when life is not going down the path you envisioned so you simply say Fuck it and jump on the next opportunity. A combination of these led me to China- Guangzhou to be precise. Guangzhou- the City of Flowers as it is poetically named, or alternatively the City of Goats! Pick your preferred reference.

I had never heard of Guangzhou, and here I was with my life in a suitcase bound for China to teach english, and become a cliche TEFL world adventurer. It was exciting, until I landed in China and had a WTF epiphany. I am in China. I do not speak Chinese. I do not know the culture, or anyone. This is where life had brought me….and yet 2 months down the line in retrospect it is one of the best adventures of my life!

China has opened my eyes to a new culture! The red and gold has moulded itself to my character. It is funny being a foreigner, an expat….I am labelled and cannot escape the label branded on my forehead.
